Pianist Kyla Cummins made her television debut on Anchorage Live at the age of 9. Beginning her studies at the age of 6, Kyla excelled under the tutorage of Ann Fernandez taking second place in both Junior and Senior divisions of the Margarite Downey Competition. At her young age she became the featured pianist in Ernest Blochs piano concerto with East Anchorage High School of Fine Arts orchestra and then was subsequently selected to be the piano accompanist for the Alaska State Honor Choir. She was a pianist with Alaska Dance Theatre at the age of 13 and in 1996 she relocated to Portland, Oregon to become a pianist with the Oregon Ballet Theatre.

Kyla Cummins furthered her formal piano education by earning her Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Portland State University in 2004. Her instructors include Ann Fernandez, Dean Epperson, Juliana Osinchuk, Harold Gray and Carol Rich.

She currently resides in beautiful Portland, Oregon where she runs her own private piano studio and performs as an accompanist and soloist in the area. Most recently performing with rock violist Aaron Meyer and guitarist Bill Lamb throughout Oregon and Washington. In addition to being a member of the Oregon Music Teachers Association and teaching in her studio, she also instructs with Muse Inc. at local elementary schools. Kyla also enjoys hiking, backpacking, poi (firedancing) and running marathons.
